Landscape Creation-Prototype

 Level 1 landscape prototype Before creating the first forest level, I experimented with Unreal's Landscape sculpting and painting tools to have a rough prototype world. This helped me gain a better grasp of using the software's landscape editing mode.    The sculpting tools allowed me to easily create whatever form of terrain I wanted to. Using the Sculpting Tools to create the environment    The painting tool worked, by selecting whatever surface textures I had and dividing them up into separate layers using blueprint coding. This allowed me to "paint", the textures onto the landscape, creating different features such as grassy plains, cliff faces, or natural walkways.  Me using the painting tool. Sketches

The puca as pictured will be a mischievous round hairy creature, it'll be quite a lot shorter than the user and will scurry around in the bushes and trees along the users path, it won't interfere with the user journey however there will be a wooden beware sign somewhere along the path, either on a tree or on its own. This sign will inform the users that there are pucas in the area and briefly explain what they are, this way the user will be able to casually learn about snippets of Irish fairy folklore.   The user will also walk past fairy, rings and a dragons den. The dragon will be seen sleeping from a certain distance and will also not interfere with the users journey. The dragon is part of environment due to it being a symbol of fertility. Fertility is often associated with spring, which is the focal point of the poem the environment is based around.

Forest Level 1- Development

 For the development of the first forest level, I initially planned on using "Gaea", a free landscape generation software that allowed users to create basic landscapes quickly. However, due to some issues with the free version of the software, I decided to mold the landscape from scratch using Uneral's  Landscape sculpting tools.   Creating a basic landscape in Gaea. After molding the landscape, I used the texture paint tool to add the grass and rock faces in the environment, while also adding the path that the player will walk through. While doing this I made sure to playtest the area to make sure the path was both scenic and walkable.    Creating the landscape Using the paint tool to add texture to the environment  Blueprint coding for the materials.
